Description
Delicious and easy-to-make cigares with caramelized onions and gooey cheese wrapped in crispy phyllo pastry.
Ingrédients
ÉCHELLE
- 8 to 10 sheets of phyllo pastry
- 2 large onions (yellow or red), thinly sliced
- 100 g grated cheese (cheddar, emmental, mozzarella, or cheese of your choice)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme or Herbes de Provence (optional)
- Melted butter or olive oil for brushing
Préparation
- Heat olive oil and butter in a pan over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 10 to 15 minutes until tender and golden. Stir in brown sugar until wonderfully caramelized. Optional: add balsamic vinegar, season with salt, pepper, and thyme. Let cool.
- Take a sheet of phyllo pastry. Place a generous amount of the caramelized onion and cheese mixture in the center. Fold carefully and roll to form a cigar, sealing edges with a bit of water.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C. Place the cigars on a baking sheet and brush them with melted butter or olive oil. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Serve with a yogurt garlic sauce or cheese sauce, alongside a green salad or raw veggies.
Notes
Avoid burning the onions by keeping an eye on them. Ensure you season well to avoid blandness.
