Description

A delightful homemade apple tart filled with the warm flavors of cinnamon and fresh apples, perfect for impressing friends or indulging yourself.


Ingrédients

ÉCHELLE
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 8 firm apples (such as Golden Delicious)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Préparation

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. In another bowl, beat the egg, cold water, and vinegar; stir into the flour mixture until just combined. Divide into two balls and flatten into disks. Refrigerate for 15 minutes.
  3. Roll out one dough disk and place it in a 9-inch pie plate. Roll out the second disk to cover the filling.
  4. Peel and slice the apples, combine with sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg. Fill the crust with the apple mixture and dot with butter.
  5. Brush the top with egg yolk, sprinkle sugar, and cut slits to vent steam. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20 minutes, then reduce temperature to 350°F (180°C) and continue baking for 60-65 minutes until golden.
  6. Let cool before serving.

Notes

Avoid forgetting the salt in the crust. Don’t overbake, and cover the crust if it’s browning too quickly.
