Description
A delightful homemade apple tart filled with the warm flavors of cinnamon and fresh apples, perfect for impressing friends or indulging yourself.
Ingrédients
ÉCHELLE
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 8 firm apples (such as Golden Delicious)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 pinch nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Préparation
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- In another bowl, beat the egg, cold water, and vinegar; stir into the flour mixture until just combined. Divide into two balls and flatten into disks. Refrigerate for 15 minutes.
- Roll out one dough disk and place it in a 9-inch pie plate. Roll out the second disk to cover the filling.
- Peel and slice the apples, combine with sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg. Fill the crust with the apple mixture and dot with butter.
- Brush the top with egg yolk, sprinkle sugar, and cut slits to vent steam. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20 minutes, then reduce temperature to 350°F (180°C) and continue baking for 60-65 minutes until golden.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
Avoid forgetting the salt in the crust. Don’t overbake, and cover the crust if it’s browning too quickly.
