Description

A delightful French recipe for Pain Perdu, using up old bread to create a dreamy brunch dish.

Ingrédients

ÉCHELLE
  • 8 thick slices of bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 200ml milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 200g chocolate spread (Nutella)
  • 4 bananas

Préparation

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and 2 tablespoons of sugar.
  2. Take 2 slices of bread and create a small cavity in the center.
  3. Dunk the bread into the egg-milk-sugar mixture, ensuring it’s well-coated.
  4. Add 1/4 of the chocolate spread in the cavity and insert half a banana. Repeat for each slice.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining sugar on top.
  6. Place the assembled slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 180ºC for 15 minutes.
  7. Serve warm or hot, with cream if desired.

Notes

Be sure not to soak the bread too long to avoid mushiness; a quick dip is sufficient.
